Background

Construction work is not just about physical structures, it’s about building relationships with people who are affected by your project. Whether it be with concerned neighbours, active campaigners or statutory bodies, you need ways in which you can communicate and discuss your project in a positive manner, especially when problems arise. Conflict management costs time, money and reputation as well as introducing risk into the project management cycle; prevention is better than cure.

Stakeholder engagement has a proven business case, and the legislative requirements are becoming steadily more rigorous. Statements of Community Involvement implemented by Local Authorities influence what is required and how you deliver it, as well as who you engage with and when.

This training is primarily aimed at staff who have to deal with members of the public in their work - communicating, consulting, negotiating or meeting people who have opinions on your project.
