Drake & Scull - Saving Resources Through Integration

Drake and Scull have benefited from the commercial advantage of being certified to ISO 14001, which has enabled them to work effectively with clients who already have an EMS.

Drake and Scull Technical Services Ltd. (DSTS), a subsidiary of EMCOR USA, carry out all aspects of work associated with the provision of facility services. They employ over 2,300 staff throughout the UK with the head office in Eastleigh.

An Integrated Management System, combining Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental systems has been developed. The system has reduced duplication, minimised procedures, maximised resources, and includes an integrated audit programme.

DSTS  have identified their supply chain as one of their environmental impacts, and are assessing it through questionnaires to suppliers and subcontractors. DSTS also use this opportunity to advise suppliers of their environmental commitment and exert an influence to get their supply chain to consider similar action.

Awareness of environmental considerations and communication with all employees is achieved through training sessions. Employees are given a laminated copy of the Environmental Policy and DSTS also use information which is available free from the DETR and DTI to help raise awareness.

One of the main benefits is the commercial advantage of being certified to ISO 14001, which enables DSTS to work effectively with clients who already have an EMS, as well as assist those clients who may be considering an EMS.

An EMS has benefits from both a social and economic point of view. We are protecting the environment whilst simultaneously improving our commercial benefits.
