Brookwood Press Ltd Recycling Best Practice

Stephen Blackmore, Director of Brookwood Press Ltd, based in Redhill, took part in the PaperSave Pilot Recycling Scheme during 2004. This scheme provided free door-to-door paper and card recycling for a period of 9 months in order to stablish cost-effective and sustainable recycling for small and medium Sized Enterprises. Brookwood Press Ltd managed to recycle a considerable amount of their waste as well as saving on disposal costs

Taking part in the PaperSave recycling scheme allowed Brookwood Press Ltd to recycle all of their paper and card for free for a 9-month period. They actually reduced their normal trade waste collections from 4X1100 litre wheelie bins once a week to 3X1100 litre wheelie bin on a weekly basis and hope to reduce this by a further one. Brookwood now have 2 X 1100 litre recycling bins collected every week.

Benefits:

Despite an introduced collection charge, Brookwood Press Ltd are continuing to recycle, saving £16 per month on disposal costs, or more than £192 per year. They now have a recycling rate of 50%, recycling around 25 tonnes of waste paper and card per year. As well as saving on landfill space (125 cubic metres per year or more than 1 and a 1/4 double decker buses!!), they are also reducing the amount of carbon dioxide emissions by 21Kg’s per year. They are happy in the knowledge that they taking part in the scheme benefits the environment as well as saving them money.
