East Sussex farm saves over £330 p.a. by harvesting rainwater

Coopers Farm is a working farm breeding and selling sheep and cattle. They purchased and installed a rainwater harvesting system, anticipated to save over £330 p.a.

Water Efficiency

Action

  • Coopers Farm put a £563 grant towards the £2,145 cost of a rainwater harvesting system. The system collects water from the roof of the cattle sheds, where it is stored in tanks and supplied to the animal’s troughs via a ballcock system.

Benefits

  • Coopers Farm expects to source 227m3 of water p.a. from the new system and will continue to realise savings of £330 year on year. Water scarcity is an increasingly important issue in the South East. Abstraction in this area is at, and in some cases beyond, the maximum sustainable level. Minimising water consumption is the only real solution to the water shortage, and legislation led pressure is likely to increase in the near future.
