Restaurant saves approximately £378 p.a. by improving water efficiency
The Fish Café opened in 2004, and ensured that energy efficiency and environmental concerns were considered in the business plan.
Water Efficiency
Actions
-
Installation of three waterless urinals, using a Green Action Award of £363 towards the £726 installation cost via the East Sussex betre* programme.
Benefits
-
Comparison with a typical urinal cistern of 9 litres, flushing once every thirty minutes (237m3/ year), costing £378/annum at a unit cost of £1.60/ m3 (including supply and wastewater charges). Payback is under 2 years.
-
As the waterless urinals use no water, these charges would be avoided. Water scarcity is an increasingly important issue in the South East. Abstraction in this area is at, and in some cases beyond, the maximum sustainable level. Minimising water consumption is the only real solution to the water shortage, and legislation led pressure is likely to increase in the near future.
