Environmental management policies and systems

Showing your customers and suppliers that you take environmental issues seriously

  • Environmental Policies

An Environmental Policy is an expression of the intention and key principles for reflecting environmental issues in business pratices.

An Environmental policy can be developed for any size of business from a sole trader to a  multi-national corporation.

  • Environmental Management Systems (EMS)

These provide a management approach enabling businesses to identify, monitor, manage and reduce the environmental impacts of your activities with greater efficiency and control. An EMS forms part of the overall management system that includes organisational structure, planning activities, responsibilities, practices, procedures, processes and resources for developing, implementing, achieving, reviewing and maintaining the environmental policy.

There are a number of British, European and international standards (BS855, EMAS and ISO 14001) that can help you accredit an existing EMS. By having an environmental policy and/or an EMS show your customers and suppliers that your business is taking environmental responsibility seriously.
